anniversaries: san diego & the san diego history center

The year 2019 marked the 250th anniversary of the founding of contemporary San Diego and the 90th anniversary of the San Diego History Center. The Port of San Diego hosted a public commemoration on April 11, exactly 250 years after the first seaborne contingent of Spanish settlement arrived in the San Diego harbor. The City of San Diego partnered with the San Diego History Center to promote the event and develop a mini exhibition titled, Shaping 250 Years of San Diego: The Top 25 People, Events, and Developments that Made America’s Finest City. The History Center also established an Annual Giving Campaign prior the commemoration to celebrate the impacts of the San Diego’s role as the birthplace of California.
